Arkansas has weathered our nation’s recent economic challenges better than most states, but it has not gone unscathed. We’ve seen factories and businesses close, and good people have lost jobs. Our schools, too, have been hurt by the economic crisis.
We’re fortunate in Northwest Arkansas to have fared relatively well compared to other regions across the country, but we’ve seen businesses and people hurt here at home, too. The good news is that a better economic climate is coming, and—better still—Arkansas is positioned to emerge from these troubling times stronger and better prepared to face the second decade of the 21st century.
We need strong leadership in the General Assembly to guide our state’s economic recovery and to work with Governor Mike Beebe to ensure that Arkansas is always in a position to compete for new economic opportunities.
