Immigration Reform and the DREAM Act

I had the opportunity to speak at an immigration reform rally earlier this week in Springdale. As I told the crowd of a hundred or so, I can think of few things as important to the future of our country as reforming our immigration laws.

One critical element needed: greater access to higher education. The Arkansas DREAM Act, a scaled-down version of the federal DREAM Act, would help create such access, meaning more hard-working high school students across Arkansas would have a better chance at going to college. In a state that consistently ranks near the bottom when it comes to education—where fewer than one in five adults have a college degree—we can’t afford not to make the DREAM Act a reality.

The election might be thirty-nine days away, but we have to start now. Find out who your representatives are in Little Rock and Washington, DC. Write them. Call them. Stress to them the importance of immigration reform and the DREAM Act. Make sure they know where you stand.

And don’t stop with those currently serving in office. Make sure you know where your candidates stand, too.

We can make Arkansas stronger. And we can win the election on May 18 with your help. Thank you.
